The original piece, “Cake-1,” that this pattern was born from, is a larger collage that started out with the background of a print of a wallpaper design called “Bella Cake.” Bella is a signature motif for me. A character shape that I use it in my logo, and I have a variation of it in a tattoo. I’ve made many patterns with it in different colorways and scales.

This pattern reminded me of icing on a cake and it served as a playground for layering additional elements on top. The bold contrast of the deep black and crisp white provides a dynamic, neutral canvas for the fragmented pieces from other works to come together in harmony.

When I scanned the collage, scaled it down, and repeated it as a pattern, it revealed an even more striking symmetry. The result is a refined grid that feels both intricate and decorative—a seamless blend of elegance and energy.

This versatile pattern lends itself beautifully to a variety of applications, from textiles and home decor, such as upholstery or throw pillows, to wall art and wallpaper. It’s equally suited for fashion, stationery, or packaging design, adding a bold yet sophisticated touch to any surface.
