The original piece, “Banana-1,” that this pattern was born from, is a small collage brimming with vibrant colors, bold textures, and layered shapes, evoking the lively sights and sounds of a bustling marketplace. The piece combines hand-drawn and painted elements, such as abstract motifs, floral imagery, and geometric patterns.

There was no specific inspiration for this piece, except to play with shapes and colors. This collage was created spontaneously, mostly with elements that I already had from other works. For me, the joy lies in choreographing these pieces into a harmonious whole, so that all the parts talk to each other.

The idea to scan and digitally repeat the collage into a pattern was transformative. That created a uniformity turning the singular composition into a complex tapestry. Viewed as a larger design, the repeating motifs evoke balance and rhythm, drawing influences from modern abstract art and traditional textile design. The interplay of geometric forms, organic shapes, and striking hues makes this pattern an ideal choice for interiors as wallpaper, textiles, or framed prints.
